This past weekend, a few of us fangirls relived our younger days when we took a couple of 17-year-olds to see Joe Jonas. We did this because we know what it is like to be 17 and need somebody to take you to see your favourite band. Not only that, it was a GA show and we knew we would need each other’s support to make it through the night. It was this experience that will forever make us grateful to our own mothers who braved boyband fandom for us all those years ago.
Remember when we used to wait in lines like this to see NKOTB and BSB? (Freezing, in the middle of winter-looking at you Nick).
They gave out “over-19” wristbands. When was the last time you were at a show where the majority of the fans were under 19?
They actually asked us for ID to get these wristbands-I guess we should be flattered. On the other hand, we did sit (on the floor) at the back of the venue in between acts-so maybe those people were questioning the need to ID us.
Imagine our surprise when the first act was about the take the stage and the opening chords to "I’m Shipping up to Boston" started. Based on our reaction, you would have thought that NKOTB was about to hit the stage in those bedazzled Celtics jerseys. Even without a surprise NKOTB appearance, we still had a good time. The most important thing is that the girls had fun and got to experience the show. As for us, we succeeded in our mission to pass on the joy of being a fangirl to the next generation.
